Lifelong Care for Pets and Families
Currently part of the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, UC Davis’ primary care service provides veterinary care from the time a pet joins their family through all stages of life. The current clinic offers routine veterinary care for dogs and cats and provides our fourth-year veterinary students hands-on training in real-world cases.
An expansion of this service into the Primary Care Hospital will ensure all current offerings remain including annual examinations and preventative care such as vaccinations, new puppy and kitten evaluations, treatment for outpatient illnesses and injuries, dental cleaning and extractions as needed, and senior pet care.
Expansion of primary care for animals is critical today, as nearly 60% of American households own a pet. Pet owners from California and across the world will benefit from this expansion – from routine care that is more convenient for families, to access to specialty care when a pet needs it most.
Expanding Access and Training
As part of the next phase of the Veterinary Medical Complex expansion, the existing facilities will be repurposed and updated to significantly expand our capacity to offer routine veterinary services. As we extend our exceptional, compassionate care to thousands more beloved companions each year, veterinary students will gain more opportunities for hands-on learning alongside the country’s best clinicians.
Advanced and Timely Care
The Primary Care Hospital will provide urgent care and routine services like annual exams, preventative medicine and outpatient treatment for illnesses and injuries. The new facility will include an Urgent Care Center to provide timely outpatient care, ensuring pets receive treatment without delay.
